MWC Barcelona 2024 – At the source of innovation

In the telecommunications industry, the end of February is traditionally the most interesting time of the year because of all the news that the world’s largest companies in this field present at the MWC (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona. This was also the case this year, where the participants and the general public could see the latest trends and tendencies based on which it is possible to project future developments in mobile telecommunications. As a regional leader who has been successfully operating in the field of test and measurement equipment for almost three decades, Ibis Instruments pays significant attention to participation in each MWC, which almost always opens up new development opportunities.

Among the significant novelties presented by our vendors, the most prestigious companies in the field of test and measurement equipment, several stood out. We are primarily referring to the use of Artificial Intelligence in the field of RAN Automation and Optimization, as well as the solution for Testing the Security of the Open RAN architecture presented by Viavi Solutions. Another important domain in which Viavi has made significant progress is User and Service Analytics using AI and ML tools, which participants in this year’s MWC had the opportunity to hear all the details.

There was no less news from Keysight Technologies, which focused on solutions for advanced NTN networks and improving energy efficiency in Open RAN technology. In addition, a significant focus was on the synergy of AI and ML and testing the latest WiFi 7 and 5G devices with automation that excludes the human factor.

Significant news also comes from Microchip, which presented its new device TP4500 (Time Provider Grandmaster). This device offers the flexibility of connecting different generations of network elements, helping optimize the operator’s investment in infrastructure. This device supports a unique 25G interface and sub nanosecond synchronization.

The mentioned novelties were presented to the audience by companies with which Ibis Instruments has successfully cooperated for many years and whose solutions have been implemented throughout the region. With all the companies that make up its portfolio, Ibis Instruments cooperates very closely through equipment implementation and maintenance projects, but also through the organization of professional seminars with an educational character. On the other hand, what makes MWC unique is that it represents a perfect opportunity to expand the portfolio and establish cooperation with new vendors to provide comprehensive support to partner companies.

“Insight into the future directions of industry development and the additional expansion of the product and service portfolio are just some of the reasons for our participation at the MWC. In addition, an important reason is the support of our clients in direct connection with our vendors, leading companies from the field of test and measurement industry who will do their best to offer adequate solutions even for very specific problems,” said Bojan Nikolić, Sales Director of Ibis Instruments.
